I am soon to set up a Dell R420 with a H710 RAID card for ESXi and I want RAID10 as you and many others have advocated on Spiceworks. I will have 8 drives in this box. I presume, therefore, that I need to choose 4 spans when setting this up as “RAID10”?

I agree with you though that this way of working creates unnecessary confusion for the end user – why not simply use proper RAID10 in the first place if is labeled as RAID10?!
