For me, it’s a more robust, more secure, more easily shared environment employing a platform everyone in the house is already using on a daily basis. We have one shared folder and all docs within are automatically shared with collaborators. Moreover, it’s universally accessible, from phones, work, or home PCs.

This is also how I manage documentation for IT at work.

I really hadn’t thought about that, but you are right, that would be a simple and very effective home solution. I had thought about a home SpiceWorks Install as well. It would give us some good tools like “HoneyDo” ticketing, uploading of documents etc. But for the KB, or notes, a wiki would be much simpler.
