Thanks Scott! This article is a breath of fresh air. I can’t mention how many times I’ve tried to teach a friend or family member each of these items to cut down on the “Facebook isn’t working right, come quick!” calls I’ve received over the last decade or two.

“Go directly to the big vendors (don�??t even think about buying something made by the guy down the street) and stick exclusively to their commercial or business lines.”

I have built every machine Ive ever owned except the first, which was an At&t globalyst 515. I know every bit of hardware I use and what it can do. They were all meticulously chosen.

I will never buy a computer from a commercial or business line, and yes, I do consider myself an IT pro.

Good article but the whole thing can be summed up like this: An It pro versus an average Joe is no different than a pro Mechanic versus an average Joe, or a pro golfer versus a casual player. Intimate knowledge and subject mastery will always have better perfomance than someone who’s knowledge is so shallow the don’t know the keyboard shortcut for cut and paste.
